Collected, conclusive action will be essential for our, and our children’s, futures.
That is why for three decades the United Nations has brought together world leaders at the Conference of Parties (or COP for short). Some 197 countries who have ratified the UN’s Framework Convention on Climate Change come together, unified in the battle to avert climate catastrophe.
Last year, in Glasgow, COP26 saw an agreement that together we need to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Failure to achieve this simply isn’t an option. Our world would see irreversible change, for the worse.
But it is not just governments and politicians who see the need for action.
Many of the world’s pioneering companies joined together at the World Climate Summit at COP 26 to share their experiences and expertise in tackling this critical aim. Here business leaders and investors alike shared their innovations and expertise, away from any grandstanding.
Sustainability has now become a business imperative and industry must step up to lead the charge towards a more sustainable future. Our One Planet strategy demonstrates our commitment to leadership in this area, and as we accelerate our sustainability performance we are responding to what is perhaps the greatest opportunity and responsibility of our time. Society is at a crossroads and it is essential that businesses play their part.Amanda Williams, Head of Sustainability, Steam Specialties Spirax Sarco
With no political axes to grind, this gathering is all about sharing.
Sharing the innovation, implementation, and results of forward-thinking companies whose aim is to move towards achieving the necessary goals to secure our future.
Spirax Sarco was proud to be a Principal Sponsor at Glasgow’s World Climate Summit, a key fringe event of COP26. In November 2022 we did so again when the Summit met alongside COP27 in Egypt.
We are also pleased to be one of the FTSE100 companies that have signed up to the UN-backed Race to Zero and Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaigns.
Hosted by Egypt, at the Sharm El Sheikh resort, COP27 saw the challenges ahead as more urgent than ever.
At the 2022 World Climate Summit in Egypt, Amanda Williams, Spirax Sarco’s Head of Sustainability (Steam Specialties), joined the panel Scaling up Innovation and Finance for Heavy Industry Decarbonisation.
Amanda joined representatives from Carbon Tracker Initiative, ArcelorMittal, London Stock Exchange, UNIDO, and the ICCA to discuss developments to help these hard-to-abate sectors move forward in their efforts.
It is crunch time for planet Earth. It will take concerted effort and dedication to achieve, and hopefully exceed, the targets agreed by the Convention. We all must work together.
At Spirax Sarco we have long believed that engineering a more efficient, safer, sustainable world is how we can help.
That’s why we launched our One Planet: Engineering with Purpose strategy in June 2021. Its bold and ambitious roadmap to a brighter future is already well underway. More than just an exercise in CSR, it’s a positive and progressive roadmap to deliver on our responsibilities. It will guide our operations as we work with others, including our suppliers, customers and local communities, to leave a better world for tomorrow.
*Achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 (scopes 1 and 2) and including scope 3 by 2050.
We are confident we can do it. And, as a member of the FTSE4Good Index, we’ve been recognised for our undertaking. Join us this November to see how we can all work towards a future worth having.
It's one thing to promise the earth, but when it comes to climate change commitments, it's essential to deliver too. That's why, in 2021, we joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to help us on our journey towards net zero.
At last year’s World Climate Summit, held in Glasgow alongside COP26, Spirax Sarco’s Rachel Pallett (Business Development Director, Steam Specialities) joined the panel Investing in the Clean Energy Innovations of Tomorrow.
Whilst we are becoming more and more aware of the impact of climate change on our environment and its inhabitants, we're also conscious of the effects our business activities have too.
Bringing over 18 years of experience with her, Amanda is the Strategic Initiative Lead for the Group Biodiversity initiative and Strategic Project Lead for the Group Developing Sustainability Knowledge project.
